Following the assessment of a number of key issues and the feedback provided during the engagement process conducted by Future Urban, the Town of Gawler Council will be holding its own community engagement process on the Evanston Park Code Amendment.
Key points:
o Council wishes to further engage with our community on this matter through our own process
o Further assessment of a number of key matters will help inform the additional engagement
o Our submission will be powerful and comprehensive, yet fair
At a meeting held in early March, Council considered various matters regarding the current and intended processing of the rezoning proposal. This was in light of correspondence that local member Tony Piccolo received from the Hon Nick Champion, Minister for Planning.
The Minister clarified his expectation in respect to Council’s involvement and managing its own community engagement process. Mayor Redman confirmed that ‘based on the Minister’s advice, Council will now, separately from the proponent, engage with our community in finalising our response on the proposed code amendment.
Since this time Council has undertaken further assessment of several key issues including stormwater, traffic, tree management and associated infrastructure. In addition to this assessment Council has also considered the community feedback provided during Future Urban’s consultation period and the proponents responses to the issues raised.
At the Special Council Meeting on Tuesday 16 May 2023, Council received a report on the Evanston Park Code Amendment and Council is now seeking the community’s views on two key questions:
1. Do you support the proposed zoning change from a residential zone to an employment zone?
2. Do you support the Draft Land Management Agreement (LMA)?
Council will now undertake an extensive community engagement on the process at the Ministers request. The community engagement will commence Thursday 25 May to Thursday 15 June 2023, with a final public hearing held on Tuesday 20 June 2023.
“We want this process to accurately reflect the sentiment of the Gawler community” said Mayor Karen Redman. “It is important that all opinions are heard during this process which is why we feel it is important to give the community as much opportunity as possible to have their say”.
“It is vital that Council’s final submission provides an informed, fair and powerful response, providing the best outcome for the Gawler Community” says Town of Gawler CEO, Henry Inat.
The Town of Gawler encourages feedback during this process by visiting gawler.sa.gov.au/your-voice from Thursday 25
May 2023.
